The tale as old as time has found its release date and first official trailer. This is amazing news because I love Disney movies! I grew up during the time of Aladdin, Lion King and other films during the Disney cartoon resurgence - it's always had a special place in my heart. When Disney started to create live-action remakes of their films, I've been a bit mixed on the subject. Some have been enjoyable (Cinderella) while others missed the mark (Maleficent). Beauty and the Beast is one such film I've eagerly waited for since I heard it went into production.
For those unfamiliar with the tale, Beauty and the Beast is a remake of the cartoon with the same name. It follows the story of Belle (played by Emma Watson) who becomes a prisoner of the Beast (Dan Stevens) and their growing infatuation for each other as he learns to love again and she looks beyond his appearance. The original cartoon is still one of the only Disney cartoons (or any cartoon, in fact) to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
The movie is going to be released March 17, 2017 - which means a lot to me because it is near a special day for me. You can check out the trailer below to get a look at the official trailer.
What is happening at ABC?! The alphabet network is clearing house, with most of their bubble shows getting the swift cancellation axe. On Thursday, ABC revealed that several programs, including the long-running Castle and Nashville, were among their latest cancellations. In addition to these favourites, programs like The Muppets, Galavant, The Family and Agent Carter will also be ending this year.

I'm sad to see Nashville end. I watched the show early on when it started a few years ago and I recently binge-watched every episode when it was on Netflix. Fun fact: I still have 'Buried Under' from the first season on my playlist! It's also a shame to see Agent Carter go since it is a favourite with superhero fans.
ABC didn't just hand out bad news day, they had some good news for other waiting programs. American Crime, The Real O'Neals and The Catch were renewed for another season each.

Emma's dream of a peaceful and quiet life is going to have to wait a bit longer. MTV has released the promo trailer for the upcoming second season of their horror drama Scream. And if the video is to be believed, it's going to be a 'killer' season.
Scream is the TV adaptation of the popular horror film franchise of the same name. The series debuted last summer and it is one of my favourites! I love a good horror TV show, and especially being a Scream property, I couldn't help but watch it. Even though I did figure out the killer early on, the tension served up a dramatic finale.
The second season of Scream will pickup after the events of the first killing spree. A new killer has entered the town and it seems that more of our core cast my find their time cut short in this sequel. Fans can watch the new season on MTV on May 30, 2016.
Until then, you can view the promo below:

Archie and friends are getting a makeover for a new generation. The soda pop gang, who still rules the Sunday morning comics, is potentially being revamped into a brand new TV series on The CW. Receiving a pilot episode order, Riverdale is a modern take on the comic book series. The show will follow the lives of Archie, Betty, Veronica and their friends as they move through quiet small town life and discover the secrets of Riverdale.
Riverdale joins a collection of five other pilots ordered by the younger-skewing network. There's period piece Transylvania, which is about a young woman in search of her father while fighting infamous monsters, a romantic-comedy No Tomorrow, a TV remake of Frequency, the Untitled Mars Project set on the red planet, and the equally mysterious Kevin Williamson pilot.
The CW has been having a great year in terms of their TV shows and ratings. They struck gold in awards season and fans are loving their high-concept shows, especially their superhero dramas. However, they didn't pick up many new shows last year, and it's expected that a few of their older series could be getting the axe this year. America's Next Top Model and Beauty and the Beast are already cancelled, but who could be next to make room? Reign? Crazy Ex-Girlfriend? The Vampire Diaries? The unaired Containment?
If I had a choice, I would love to see Riverdale, the Kevin Williamson pilot, Transylvania and the Untitled Mars Project (in that order) get a series order. But we're talking about The CW here...we'll never know what they decide until May 2016.
Which pilots are you hoping get a series order? Share your comments below.
Action movies are always about the heroes fighting the villains. It's the triumph of good vs. evil and the story of how good can overcome. But with the Suicide Squad comic book series, the bad guys are taking a trip down the good road to play the heroes. "The grass is always greener on the other side" hasn't looked this good...well, more like bad.
I've been eagerly waiting for the film to come. Suicide Squad was filming in my city last year and it was exciting to hear all the latest updates going away (and the first footage of Harley Quinn popping up). Until the flick comes out this August 2016, you can watch the newest to get you just as excited.
The world is about to be "smize"-less with today's latest cancellation news. After 22 cycles on the air, America's Next Top Model is walking down the runway for the last time. The modeling competition, created by former supermodel Tyra Banks, is ending its longstanding run this year on The CW at the end of their current season. The gem that brought us "no neck", "booty tooch" and an endless array of GIFs is officially over.
Launched in 2003 on UPN, America's Next Top Model (also abbreviated as ANTM) found a home with fans and aspiring models during the early reality TV craze. Viewers connected with all the cattiness, drama and aspirations of competing to be in the modeling world. While ratings have fallen since its early days (the show now averages around a 0.3 rating), ANTM still launched the careers of many models and lasted on the air for an incredible 22 seasons.
ANTM will forever be known for its GIF-worthy scenes and iconic reality TV moments. Especially for this perfection that most remember:

In honour of the day that spans the galaxy, I'm going to be doing a short post today for Trailer Madness. It's May 4th and all the Star Wars fans out there are sharing their favourite pictures and tweets on social media. This is going to be a big year for Star Wars fans! Everyone is excited for the latest installment set to premiere this year. I'm a fan of the movie series, but there are definitely large quantities of people who are more ingrained in the fandom and nuances.
Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens isn't coming out for a while now. But, for all the fans out there, here's the latest teaser trailer again to relive the magic.
Survival-horror is my favourite video game genre. I love the atmosphere, the tension, the horror and the sense of urgency of someone (or something) chasing you. It keeps me at the edge of my seat! If a game can master this mix of horror just right, I consider it a success. For those of you familiar with this blog, I tend to cover and review many survival-horror video games. Resident Evil 6, The Evil Within and TellTale's The Walking Dead are perfect examples of this. For 2015, there is a new game I'm eagerly anticipating...and it's one for a console I don't own. This video game is a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
Until Dawn is an upcoming survival-horror video game that is inspired by many teen slasher movies. The plot follows eight friends heading to a cabin in the snowy mountains for a weekend of drinks and fun. Unbeknownst to the clueless teenagers, a killer is stalking their every move. Similar to The Walking Dead, players will get to have the chance to make choices for how this horror movie plays out. Apparently there are hundreds of different actions and endings where each choice and movement of the eight teens ultimately affects who lives, who dies and how the movie will end. As a lover of horror movies and video games, I'm excited to say the least.
The video game is set for a release this Summer 2015. No doubt I'll be writing a blog post and a new review for you all once I get to play it. My brother has a PlayStation 4 and I've given him the heads-up. Until the warmer months arrive, you can check out a closer look of the game with the Until Dawn announcement trailer below.
James Bond is ready to head out on his next death-defying adventure and finally the mission has a name. Revealed on Thursday at Pinewood Studios in London, Bond 24 will officially be known as 'Spectre'.
The official synopsis for the film is as follows: "A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE." (via Independent UK)
Spectre will feature many of the returning cast members from Skyfall, like Daniel Craig (James Bond), Ralph Fiennes (M), Naomie Harris (Moneypenny) and Ben Whishaw (Q). Joining the cast this time around will feature a few new characters like Andrew Scott (Denbigh), David Bautista (Mr. Hinx), Christoph Waltz (Oberhauser), and upcoming Bond Girls Léa Seydoux and Monica Belucci as Madeleine Swann and Lucia Sciarra, respectively. Bond is nothing without his automobile, which will be the Aston Martin DB10.
Many details are still being kept under wraps but rumours are swirling that longtime iconic 007 supervillain, Ernst Stavro Blofeld, will make his reintroduction to the series with this film. Spectre is set to be released on November 6, 2015.

May is finally here and that only means one thing: pilot season is almost coming to an end. The network upfronts are set for next week and the networks will be unveiling their new line-ups and series orders. Unfortunately, many shows will be getting the axe this week to make room - similar to the recent announcement that Almost Human was cancelled by Fox after one season. Before the bad news starts coming in, let's enjoy the good news of renewals and series pick-ups.
While many naturally assumed this pilot as a lock for the 2014-2015 season, Fox has announced on May 5th that the pilot will become a series. Gotham, the comic book origin story of Commissioner Gordon (played by Benjamin McKenzie) and DC's super-villains, has been ordered to series to join previously picked pilots such as Heiroglyph and Backstrom.
In other renewal news, WGN America has renewed Salem for a second season. The supernatural period-piece accumulated great numbers for the network, scoring the honour of being the network's most-watched show in years. Salem is slated to hopefully return in 2015 for a 13-episode second season.
Check out the extended trailer below to get a closer look at the new series.

Save the cheerleader, save the world! Remember when that used to be a thing? (Wow...I just showed my age.)
Announced yesterday from the peacock network, NBC has officially decided to revive their X-Men/superhero-like drama Heroes from the TV grave for an initial 13-episode miniseries. The new television event, Heroes Reborn, will be set to air in 2015. No word yet has been revealed if any of the original characters and cast will return to the new series.
For those of you unfamiliar with the show, Heroes was a smash hit action series in 2006 that featured everyday people discovering that they were developing superpowers. The first season received immense buzz and viewer popularity that it seemed like the show would continue to progress but it faltered in later seasons, being cancelled in 2010 after its fourth season. The show stared hit performers like Zachary Quinto, Hayden Panettiere, Ali Larter, Adrian Pasdar, Milo Ventimigilia and a revolving door of other main characters, recurring and guests - it was a big show with a large cast.
I'm interested to see how this new series of Heroes will pan out, especially since a revival has been rumoured since MSN was in talks to bring it back. I watched the show for the first three seasons before walking away from it - too much kept happening to follow and it lost its edge near the end. Maybe things will turn around in 2015? A lot can happen in a year and diehard fans must be excited to see their show come back.

Let the good news begin! The CW, arguably one of the most unpredictable broadcast networks, has announced early season renewals for five of their programs. Freshman dramas The Originals and Reign were both picked up for a second season while returning favourites Arrow, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries were each picked up for a third, tenth and sixth season respectively.
While this is great news for fans of these shows, no news has been revealed about The CW's remaining bubble series The Tomorrow People, The Carrie Diaries, Hart of Dixie and Beauty and The Beast. Renewal and cancellation announcements will probably be revealed closer to May - The CW's annual TV upfronts - and after when both The 100 and Star-Crossed premiere in the coming weeks.
It's no secret that I'm super excited to hear this news. I love the programming on The CW (even providing recaps for The Originals and The Carrie Diaries, with more shows to come) and with the smaller number of series on the network, it's become an interesting topic to determine which shows get renewed and which get cancelled. Now that five programs were renewed and Nikita finished its run back in December, the debate just got a lot more interesting.

A lot of updates this week in TV news as the cancellation axe hits across the board. Veteran comedy favourite Psych will be closing its doors for the last time at the end of its Season 8 finale. USA has set the series finale (which originally was the season finale) on Wednesday, March 26 at 9 p.m. While fans will be sad to see Psych go, the show did prove to be the little engine that could by lasting eight long seasons on the air.
Unfortunately for the next two seasons, their freshman run will be their last. Perennial bubble series Sean Saves The World and The Michael J. Fox Show have been cancelled by NBC in their first season - being replaced by Hollywood Game Night which will takeover the full Thursday hour time slot. The Michael J. Fox Show was picked up for a full series before the fall season and it's already aired 17 of its 22 episodes so far. Sean Saves The World, on the other hand, has stopped production on any new episodes and will be likely burned off in the summer.
In relatively good news, House of Cards has already been renewed for a third season - even before the second one has even aired. No word yet on a premiere date but great news for the Netflix produced series.

Veronica Mars is heading back to the television world but not in the way you expect. Announced on Wednesday at the Television Critics Association (TCAs), The CW President Mark Pedowitz announced that a new Veronica Mars digital spin-off show would be heading to The CW's online digital network, CW Seed.
Admittedly confirming that buzz from the upcoming movie helped spark interest to work with the series again, The CW is excited to bring Veronica Mars back and work with Rob Thomas for the eight episode 10-minute digital series. None of the original cast members are currently signed on and current timelines seem to reveal the series won't premiere until after the movie is released.
Also revealed at The CW's TCA presentation, Pedowitz went into detail about the current shows airing on the network, as well as new series picked up, spin-offs and perspective pilots, such as their DC Comics' entries. While the outlook is looking good for the Arrow spin-off Flash after receiving its own pilot order, another DC script wasn't so lucky. Amazon, based on the early adventures of Wonder Woman, will not be going into development after being passed on for another year; however, the project will still be placed into limbo for future use. Hourman and iZombie, the other DC entries, are still tentative until Pedowitz reads the scripts.
Other news revealed:
- Breaking Pointe, the ballet-inspired reality show, has been cancelled after two season
- The Supernatural backdoor spin-off is still in development and in talks
- Two reality shows, one about barbershop challenges and another about a magic duo, were picked up for an unspecific date (I'm not even kidding about this!)
- The four hour miniseries Labyrinth was picked up as well

Send out the Bat-Signal - I'm too excited for the latest scoop. Revealed on Monday at the Television Critics Association (TCAs), Fox's Chairman of Entertainment Kevin Reilly announced that the recently ordered to series Batman prequel Gotham will also introduce the origin stories of several important DC villains and characters from the Batman universe.
Originally intended to focus on the origins of future police Commissioner James Gordon and the criminals that torture Gotham City, Gotham will follow the journey of a young Bruce Wayne as he develops into the Dark Knight. The beginnings of several notable DC villains will be introduced before they fought head-to-head with Batman, such as The Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman and much more.
While no production details have started except for the pilot script, Reilly did state that Bruce Wayne's story will follow him from around the age of 12 until he puts on the Batman cape in the series finale (whenever that may be).

Only one more news cycle left for HBO's The Newsroom. Announced on Monday via the network, HBO has decided to renew their critically-acclaimed show The Newsroom for a third and final season.
While news was still unclear about the future of the show, HBO officially confirmed the end. The Aaron Sorkin drama will begin production for their final season in the spring, with the airing scheduled for Fall 2014.
Also biting the dust on the broadcast side is ABC's low-rated spy drama The Assets. Launching with little fanfare and a 0.7 in the 18-49 rating, The Assets was pulled after two low-rated episodes. Originally intended to be an eight-part miniseries, no word yet has been announced if the remainder of the series will be aired. I wouldn't be surprised if it's used as a filler in the summer or didn't air at all. I'm usually pretty on the ball regarding new shows and yet I've heard little about The Assets until the day it aired. Oh well!

Good news, Marshmallows! Announced on Friday via the Veronica Mars Twitter page and subsequent media outlets, the first official movie poster for the Veronica Mars movie has been revealed. Sporting the titular heroine upfront with camera in hand, the moniker for the poster features the tagline, "She thought she was out" as the current teaser.
While several favourite and familiar characters from the series are included in the poster; such as Wallace, Mac and her father Keith Mars (Percy Daggs III, Tina Majorino and Enrico Colantoni respectively). However, for the LoVe fans out there trying to make a case for predictions, Logan (Jason Dohring) is featured in two photos compared to Piz's (Chris Lowell) one. I'm not biased toward either relationship pairing so I'll be pretty open to whatever happens in the movie.
The Veronica Mars movie is set to be released on March 14, 2014 in select theatres across the U.S. Plans for an international release and screenings have yet to be announced. I've placed the official movie trailer below for those who have yet to see it.

Let the 2014 renewal news begin! To the surprise of no one, days before its season three premiere this Sunday, HBO has announced the renewal of Girls for a fourth season. Cast will begin filming the next season starting this spring for an expected 2015 airing.
Girls follows the adventures of four twenty-something girls in New York City as they deal with love, life and trying to make their way as adults. Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet star as the four best friends.

Change can be a good thing.
It's only the third day in 2014 and I'm ready to update a few items online. For those of you who have followed this site in the last year, I love experimenting with the look and feel of this blog. New colours, adding in the main slider, new features and creating a TV humour Tumblr were just a few new things for 2013.
Casually through the year, I've been toying around with a few ideas and thoughts for the site. I started this blog almost four years ago back in college when I wanted to improve my writing style and talk about life. My style has changed and the focus of this blog has shifted to hobbies instead (while still casually writing about life). The one thing that stayed the same was the name of this blog: The Unwritten Journal. What started as a temporary fix and placeholder in 2010 has stayed with me throughout the years, but I've always known that I wanted to change the name to be more attuned to the focus on the blog now. Suffice it to say, I've spent a little too much time thinking about this and I think I've come up with a name.
Throughout the next few days and weeks I'll be updating the site, fixing a few of the colours and adding the new name. This also means a new URL link to the website as I will be changing that as well. I will still be keeping the current URL but it will be focused elsewhere. The content of the website will not change - there will still be a focus on TV, movies, video games and other topics that I post about - only the name and colour scheme will be updated.
Sorry in advance if a few technical problems should arise; definitely let me know if anything comes up. In the meantime, I hope you're excited for new things as I am - it's going to be a great year!
I love gaming. I like zombies. And I can't wait for the next generation of consoles. Obviously, combining all three together would sound like a pretty enticing topic. I have yet to purchase the Xbox One - I'm still holding out until my birthday - but when I do, I believe that this game will be the first game I will purchase to welcome my new console. The open-world zombie survival-horror game: Dead Rising 3.
My first purchase for the Xbox 360 was the original Dead Rising and I was equally excited for the sequel a few years back. Now that the series is continuing to the next generation, the game has been equipped with new features, characters and a continuation to the storyline that will make the wait so much better.
Dead Rising 3 is currently out today but if you're still unsure about the purchase, check out the recent trailer released by Gamespot.
